Mon 15th April |
Mon 8th April Power's Bar show last night was really sweet, we performed unplugged-style with three voices, acoustic guitar, bass and drums played with brushes. Some folk might prefer I used a comma after the word bass, to avoid the implication that the bass was also played with brushes, but I like to use the '&' sign to group items together, and the word 'and' to introduce the last item in that form of sentence. So if I were trying to say that both the bass and the drums were played with brushes, there would be an additional 'and' like this: "We performed unplugged-style with three voices, acoustic guitar and bass & drums played with brushes." Know what I mean? Having said all that, I did use an Oxford comma in the new description of Jeeps on thebed.co.uk, so as to avoid giving the impression that I, also, am a Fahlqvist from Sweden. The Jury will be out some time on that one I should imagine. In other news, the sun is shining, poor Margaret is lying dead amidst a clatter of fools cheering for something they know nothing of and, buz buzz, another world looks at his iPod & skips tracks for an entire orbit of the nearest Star. All night and day I eye the ragged globe Through periscopes rightsighted from the grave. Dylan Thomas I don't imagine my decade-old Margaret Thatcher resurrection song, Aliens Live Forever, will finally go viral, but when I played it on the guitar just now the parrots outside my window kissed for the first time. |
Sat 6th April Was so weird being at the Crown & Treaty again last night, nevermind playing. Many people we know are midway through reading The Life & Loves of Jet Tea, heavily set in the Treaty, which added to the general unreality of the situation. We played a punky set, very loud, was pretty decent I think. Velouria is cancelled for tomorrow, but we're still gonna play at Power's Bar in Kilburn so that show is back on, maybe see you tomorrow then! |
Fri 5th April Let's have a word shall we. Got the most recent Deftones album (Koi No Yokan) on, in a candle lit room of our labyrinthine asylum in West London. Things are about to get very busy indeed, so this entry will serve as the eye of the winestorm. Most recent events have been unbloggable, but I'm sure to have some licit language to let loose once we hit the road & start playing shows in more colourful corners. Like a band of bees unhived, we ride. |
Thu 4th April Although we've rehearsed in a different studio almost every day this week, things have still got quite out of hand on the drinking / social front. We're becoming minor local celebrities for all the wrong reasons, and the wine bar down the road is a mixed blessing to say the least. Still, a few shows coming up, they should keep us on our toes until the recording process starts for the new single/EP. And nothing cries out abstinence like an empty wallet. |
Tue 2nd April Half the set on Friday will be as a three-piece (Eddie's debut on bass) and, for the other half, our old friend Tom will be playing the four-string. So it will be another JEEPS one-off. There will be a JEEPS release in the next few weeks, a single with probably 3 b-sides (including two covers). My first ever gig performance was at the Angler's Retreat in West Drayton, aged 15, and we played with the amazing Monkey Boy: Monkey Boy no longer exist, but they morphed into Batterymen who released this fantastic free / name your price album last week: |
Sun 31st March Played another acoustic set at our local wine bar last night, they give us free beer & we play songs we've been working on & a cover or two. Nailed a Joy Division tune, a Beat Happening number & a Neil Young classic, we'll video something this week & get it online, there's quite a backlog. An 82 year old woman who lived through the war had some very insightful things to say about our music, Nirvana cover & all, which led to a table-wide debate about an artist's obligation to compromise in order to communicate, while two separate groups of youngsters just wanted to hear Elton John's Your Song. There is something very not alright about the kids today. I hope they don't mind, I hope they don't mind, that I put down in words what a bunch of cunts they are. |
Sun 31st March Here's another great free / name your price release from Mincer Ray, we'll hopefully play another show in Berlin with them early May: |
Sat 30th March Hey Jessica, my YouTube stats say that nobody from Texas watched this amazing performance of Riley singing in Italian from the other week, you really are missing out: |
Fri 29th March Kilburn show last night was pretty cool, first one with current line-up so bit wobbly in places (new song was a shambles!) but all in all very positive. Our new bass player can't make the Crown & Treaty on 5th April, so that'll be acoustic I guess, and I haven't booked to much after that 'cos life has been a bit shonk to say the least. How about you, you ok? O, I have ta'en too little care of this. |
Wed 27th March I'm being quite open with the lyrics I'm writing at the moment, a lot of the creative process was caught up with the blog writing I did in Italy at the break of the year & since then I've been sharing half-formed concepts here & there. We're debuting new song Cornermoon at the show tomorrow, and I'm still fiddling with lyrics, just updated them on last weeks page if you wanna see the progress. Cancelled Velouria on Sun 7th, long story, sorry about that. |
