Tue 7th July Popped off Facebook for a spell 'cos I think that, as an artist, I'm inclined to share or express myself through whatever medium is available to me (check it out - I'm straight onto here again) but at least this is a more personal realm with wider scope for developing ideas. Wherefore art, then? Would I have become a musician, had I been raised on the mountain in Cyprus where my mother was born? I believe I would have been a wanderer, at least, for what is it to be an artist, and isn't it somehow synonymous with a lack of contentment? I think it's natural to feel that whatever we're born with is never enough. It feels like a form of ambition, but an instinct to raise oneself spiritually, and on some level at least to clear a path. We are scouts, we are seers, we sell magic cookies. And the world has never been so skeptical about magic. And pedlars. And cookies. You saw that new Eminem video right? Of course you did, 'cos you're not so lost in yourself to forget that he's just about the only American mainstream character in the past 15 years or more who has challenged the mediocrity of the pop world. Phenomenal indeed. Mon 6th July OK forget that 2nd Treaty show, ain't happening, others are good to go though. Zealous Yen are also on the bill for Band Habits III in Hayes, that's Jae from England & The April's new band, and damn fine they are too - Mon 6th July Oh yeah, there's a little thing about JEEPS in the Uxbridge Gazette this week, where Hughie Dixon from Hayes FM very kindly writes: Glen's songs are always well constructed, minimalistically epic, expertly performed and quite often witty to a fault. Always interesting and refreshing to hear their material, but watch out for a surprising and leftfield cover version. Sounding good & loud with our new drummer Grant, and got a few little shows coming up in West London where we're relocating for a spell - Sun 12th July - Acklam Village Market, Portobello Road (2pm) Sat 25th July - Band Habits III at The Angel, Hayes End Mon 6th July Fuckin' love a Monday morning, me. So much happening. Artists who eschewed streaming apps such as Spotify have woken to find their contracts with iTunes mean that they are now part of the Apple Music streaming service. Good news if, like me, you want to hear the new Mark Knopfler album for free, perhaps not so great if you're Mark Knopfler. Or Bjork, for that matter, who's new album Vulnicura is also free to stream on there. JEEPS on there too, for what it's worth, and I quite like that I can post stuff up there in a MySpace kinda way. Guess you need followers for that to be in any way effective though right? Went to the 150 Friends Club album launch and I repeat myself when I say that in any other decade in the last 100 years this David Goo would have been a superstar long ago. Well, yeah that sortof doesn't work as an example, but you know what I'm on about. Also available on Spotify & Apple Music.. Fri 3rd July Wow, this is pretty great - Tue 30th June Just got back from Berlin and, as Eddie just pointed out to me, nothing went too drastically wrong, which was an unexpected revelation. We played every night we were out there, 3 shows in all, and a lot of 'street'-performing, and all in all it was.. quite lovely. Gonna be moving to Uxbridge sooner than expected, in about two weeks, and as chance would have it we're playing the Crown & Treaty as a full band the next two consecutive Fridays.. Thu 25th June A pleasant surprise today by shape of some fantastic artwork we were tagged in by the mysterious Alban Low. He's captured something very special there, I don't even know how it's possible with just those few energetic lines. Turns out that these pieces accompany an enigmatic review of our recent performance, which can be read HERE. Thu 25th June Berlin at weekend. Playing a show with Jeeps at Schillers in Berlin (like the fucking band page if you want event links, I can't be bothered with the html anymore) and those who know me well well know what all those German streets mean to me. Eddie & I will be moving back to Glendale Uxbridge in September, forsaking our fought-for Camden home for an Autumnal spell in the suburbs. Many reasons for this. I miss my piano, for one, and setting up a studio there will be a more realistic way of recording new material. Gonna start working on a new album from scratch. A JEEPS re-recording of popular track Michael, Are You Breathing? will be online sometime tomorrow, with a studio version of our Joy Division cover Shadowplay. Seeya then x Previous |
