Thu 13th Dec Kate Bush re-recorded the main vocal on Wuthering Heights ten years after it was originally recorded. Many songs on Nevermind were written before Bleech, but people still talk about his progression as a songwriter during that phase with regard to the success of the latter album. When the first Pumpkins album Gish was released, Billy Corgan panicked about certain elements of the recording & made changes in the studio before the next batch of CDs was pressed, and this was all without so much as an announcement in the press or sleeve. He knew that nobody would even notice. I would deign to posit that any successful re-recording of old material is undertaken as an attempt to get closer to the soul of the song, not to develop it further in any form. Take the fine work done on Let It Be (Naked), for example, and compare to the intriguing but trite elaborations on Love. I concede that Kate's new vocal on Wuthering Heights is a backwards step from the original, an apparently commercial decision, but her 20-years on re-recording of Moments Of Pleasure is far superior to the original, and in my opinion stands as one of her finest productions: |
Tue 11th Dec I decided that I can do whatever the fuck I want with these old audio files, if I wanna put a keyboard part on a ten year old song then I'm gonna do it, anyone who thinks that's wrong should have bought the original. They will be the 2012 mixes or whatever, I don't care, so long as it's good. I'm nanny Glen these days, helping my sister's family up until Christmas, will probably do me some good, though it's brought me back to Earth with a bump. |
