Jeeps played an interesting show at Camden Undersolo last night, at the We Are The Pigs live bands night.

It was an experimental line-up as you can see, yes that's Tom on bass and Andy playing drums, he edited the Eng'ape video Don't. Fucking. Rush Me incidentally. William Nein & Jamie Chiarello provided extra vocals on that middle mic.. hopefully there'll be a few photos of that forthcoming.

I'm DJ'ing at RE Bar in Eastcote tomorrow night if anybody local wants to come down & save me from Beyonce requests.

Not a great deal happening with me at the moment, so I'll take this opportunity to share another musician with you who also makes his music available for free. I think he's amazing, here's a link:

I recommend the Janes & Julias EP most highly, but it's all fab.

No sure if I've mentioned them here before, but there's a fabulous indie pop band called Those Transatlantics who have most of the music in their discography available for free download.

If yer on a mac like me, you may have to use the link at the bottom to view their site without Flash to download the song files.

I've been back in the corporate christmas party dj'ing game, forgotten how stressful that can be. And music has changed so much since I last did this kind of thing. I never used to feel I was selling my soul as I'd only play music I love that crosses over, but nobody seems happy with the classics anymore.. I did the Pizza Express head office party last night, this girl was like:

"Can you play something more relevant?"
"What, like Christmassy?" I replied.
"No, something more relevant."
"What, like songs about pizza?"

She meant something more modern I guess. Tried my hand at playing Rhianna & fuck knows what else.. at least Lady Gaga is pretty fun in such circumstances. It's easy to get so involved in certain scenes & a way of life that shifts perception of the norm way off centre.. I guess I don't have much contact with the real world and it's (lack of) anything of value (to me).. being reminded of it proved to be an unpleasant spectacle. In Berlin you can play a fucking desert soundscape & people get into it if it's good. Then again, what's not to love about a desert soundscape? May try that at the next party here, I think it's for the local police force. Or maybe they'd rather hear a song about hassling black people, or poplin' a cap in my ass for throwing a paper aeroplane. You know that song "Looking Through The Eye Of A Pig" by Cypress Hill? Brilliant, brilliant song, I'll drop that.

Car boot sale in the morning.. sweet domesticity.

In April 2005 I had a bit of a crisis, and disappeared into the English countryside to do some soul searching. I wrote this song, Lorraine, looking out of the window on the long coach journey, and finished it in a cottage somewhere in the west country. I've had similar feelings in recent months, so I've been filming out of windows a lot, feeling disoriented.. and made this video:

Trains trains trains.. and home.

It's a curious blog, this. Sometimes overtly personal, though I've recently shied from that, and oftentimes newcomers to the site won't even know who's writing.. which I like. I was going to keep it strictly video, but you can go direct to the YouTube channel for that, I'll add a link. I guess I'll keep it a no rules thing, and post what pops up in whatever manner feels most pertinent.

SO! Hobbling about the Chesham dales in the dark with a busted ankle, just now, I felt like some nobbly hunchback from a distant bleakness.. with a new haircut. And now I'm off on a bit of an adventure.. with no sleep, and a very early train to catch. See you on the other side!

Once upon an actual time (1997?), there was a band called The Junket. I was about to write that I don't remember where I first heard them, but then out of the depths came the answer. I worked briefly at a recording studio on Greek Street in Soho, and they used to have a label called (I think) Cherry Records, so we got sent press packs & demos from bands & pluggers. There were three large cardboard boxes of stuff that hadn't been looked at, so in some free time I listened to the CD's one by one.. and of course it was a painful experience.

Off all the bands there, only two appealed to me. One was Broadcast, of whom I am a huge fan to this day, and the other was The Junket. Of who I am a huge fan 'till this day. Except that they broke up many years ago & mutated into Captain, who signed a major label deal & perhaps didn't sell as many records as they deserved to.

Many years later, after hearing talk of a The Junket reunion, I discovered that Rik the original singer/songwriter & the drummer he'd stuck with throughout have a new band called More Diamonds, and that's who I went to see tonight, despite being a hundred miles away with a fractured/bruised/somewhat bollocksed ankle.

I was setting this up as a prelude to some kind of review of the show, but I've run out of steam already; peaked too soon, blown my wordcount. And I was so engrossed in the performance/nostalgia combo that I forgot to take a photo to share with you. As it turns out, all 3 members of The Junket are present, but sadly Rik doesn't play guitar this time around as there are 2 new members who both appear to be doing a very similar thing. With all the harmonies intact, it would appear at this stage that More Diamonds are closer to the Pet Shop Boys Pop of Captain that the urgent guitars of The Junket's Three Four Zero.. but argh, great songs, it's nice to be a fan of something again.
