Sat 3rd Aug Weird one at the moment cos there's so much on the horizon but right now everybody is away, so I'm just pottering about waiting for the mad rush to ensue. Show on Wed is the big one (5 vocals!) but we're gonna play the Earwicker Open Mic at the Drayton Court Hotel in West Ealing on Tue as a kindof rehearsal, and then after the book launch I'm off to Berlin for a few days to catch up with some peeps & attend some business. Will play the Open Mic L J Fox at Madame Claude in Kreutzberg on Sunday18th & then I'll be back in the 'don in the 'don preparing the new band for shows here & in the States. Wed 31st July Heya. Sorry not been about much, don't wanna write for the sake of it y'know. Show on Sunday was fun, won't be playin' solo too often but was interesting for me, for sure. There are currently 4/5 members of Jeeps, which will morph into a whole new band after the book launch show on 7th. Expect a lot of vocals for that one 'cos everyone is singing! Been listening to a lot of C.P.E Bach, fifth child of Johann, astonishing stuff. Working at the Village Club has given me a few quid to spend on ting, so I've now got a little studio set up in the other kitchen that I'm not supposed to be in. A decent pre-amp makes such a difference & though I'm still experimenting with mics etc, it wont be long before I'm uploading songs here again. |

Fri 19th July I just did some research & discovered that, my lifetime long, I've been using an apostrophe incorrectly in the word "its". Why didn't anybody tell me for heavens sake! Also this website updating ftp server thing went down as I was writing the previous two entries (I'm foolish enough to type these things live) so they were in drafty sketch form until just now. Probably made more sense the first time, people always prefer the demos. |
Wed 17th July So it's all about this book release show on 7th Aug right now, an event & a half including Q&A with the author (and some characters from the book I think..), live performances from William Nein, Elena Dana and JEEPS, and more than likely a fuckton of beauteous bastards all having a boisterous banana. Oh and a free wine reception?? I'll have to put some aside for after we've played.. |
Wed 17th July As I've gotten older, it's become increasingly necessary for the spaces I occupy to chime in tune with my life. When I was young I believed that the external world was just a distraction from what's really going on in the two minds of time, and tried to shut it out, but then I saw that the distraction was too great, irrevocably invasive, so I tried to live physically minimally; reading books and passing them on for example; holding onto nothing. But now I see that the connection between objects and what they represent or signify is stronger than I ever imagined. A rose is more than its name, and more than its sweet smell & appearance also, more than its physical existence & its abstract form combined. Its a mechanical lever in your whirlycog life, more so than an ill-conceived miracle of existence, if you'll forgive the silly psuedo solipsism. The physical world is our memory & objects unseen our predictions. This is no metaphor. I'm so happy here in my 50s style old lady's room with adjoining botanic kitchen, and I'm turning my other (purloined) space into an 80s haven complete with bedroom TV/VHS combo, yukka plant & a selection of videos (Jaws 2, Indiana Jones, Aliens, Eddie Izzard..) There's even a box of Kleenex Mansize tissues on the table. All I need now is some posters blu-tacked to the walls & one of those massive 80s stereos with electronic graphic equaliser & I'm ready to start writing again.. but then again, fuck writing, I've written enough. I'm working on a Glen Strachan Songbook, kinda like a best-of but re-recorded versions of my most 'popular' songs. Of course there will be Don't. Fucking. Rush Me, Michael Are You Breathing, I Want You Again. Time Against The Tower, Me & Nothing New, Am I There, Took A Knife To A Fistfight, Hundred Hand Slap, Office of Love, The Sad Sad Rain on Aug 23rd, Don't Expect Me To Be Gentle and some more, but if you have a particular favourite do let me know & I'll whack it on there. |
