Rediscovering London Part Two: The Elusive Old Routemaster

Steep, Steep Stairs

Knock at door.

Answer.

"Hi there, I'm just visiting to ask if the local Lib Dem party can rely on your vote at the upcoming election"

"Good afternoon, but actually, I don't vote"

"Don't vote? Are you serious? Are you aware that there are those who gave their lives for their people to be granted the right to vote?"

"I'm defending my right to not vote. Biscuit?"

"But would you die to defend that right?" (Looking at the plate of biscuits)

"I'm defending my right to not have to die in order to defend my right to not vote at the upcoming election"

(Pauses. Continues -)

"And if I do die, I'll probably be even less likely to vote"

"Therefore, seeing as you insist on living, you'll probably be even more likely to vote"

"Your logic is impeccable"

"Indeed. Could I perhaps use your bathroom please? I will have a biscuit, thank you for offering, I wouldn't usually but I've been out here for hours & I'm quite famished"

"Certainly Madame"

A skirt ascends for a watchful eye.

So far it's been a week of green, green seaweed & plosions of monkey dust, while the gaps in the year fill up with colour, slowly, like the white shirt on a grey-eyed gentleman shot seven times in the back, and once in the throat. Tie-died. No hope for ochre.

I'm booking shows in Berlin, so will definitely be there mid-June, but generally it's a case of joining the dots & mapping a route through the oncoming months. In pot shots & blood clots, if needs be.

Preferably flower pots & lemon drops.

Apricots.

The mist, the wine, another you and bright coloured pinwheels in a world so blue.

I've been working on a cover of my favourite Horror Me song for the past few days. It should be ready to hear tomorrow, but I know already that most people won't like it.. it's very unlike what I've done for a long while. Kindof a drone. We'll see.

Ever get the feeling you're having a glass of Shiraz & being watched by a giant yellow fox?

Pic by And, additional animal identification clarification by Olivia, who thinks it's a bear.

Rediscovering London Part One: The Wheel Is Come Full Circle

Last week may well have been, in part. shambolic beyond salvation, but it did encourage me to get cracking with my covers album that's lay dormant for a while. I was very happy with my version of Moonlight Shadow (come on, it's fab!) & here's a Magnetic Fields track I just recorded:

I'm still living outside of London in Chesham. Usually I only stay here in the wintertime, so I've never explored the garden before, but on Friday Tom & I did some rewarding gardening. It's now a real pleasure to spend time out there in the sunlight, as it dapples through the apples.

There's life, and there's life.

I had the unmitigated pleasure of sharing stories & spending time with the mysterious Aaron Invisible in New York, and consider him to be one of the city's brightest lights. After struggling to find him or his music online, I asked about this internet invisibility; it is of course intentional, and there's next to nothing to hear of him on the web. Except this live recording from St. Patricks Day at Catweazle.. recorded just before we hit that place with the free bar & I woke up in Bushwick ;o)

You certainly don't usually get to hear a recording of this guy:

I don't usually update the new week on a Sunday. I don't often go to the cinema; I've only seen a few movies in recent memory, but somebody took me to see this last week & I was blown away:

Only recently have I started doing the things I'd previously been saving up for special occasions. Life's too short, and I've been let down too often. I'd always wanted to stay at the Chelsea Hotel, and was waiting for the right person to share that experience with, but in the end I just had to stay there for myself. It's recently been put up for sale, I'm thankful I didn't miss my chance, and had a great time there with my friends. The Metrpolitan Museum of Art in New York was another place I wouldn't usually go without a significant other, but it was an incredible experience and, once again, the wonderful people I know helped make it an unforgettable day out. You know that song Girlfriend by The Modern Lovers?

So many things I want to see, and share, before my dreams fade. I hereby revoke my stake in the sacred, the only remaining investment. Easier said than done!

Most of the time, when somebody says "I don't usually do this", they're lying.
Most of the time, you wouldn't care if they were.

Sometimes you just gotta try a different tack.
