Tue 3rd July 2012 Another near lethal bike ride carousing through the centre of Berlin screaming "Woooo!" while narrowly avoiding rampant busses & runaway trams & then I'm in elsewhere, homeless but fed & roofed for the moment, booking acoustic shows for JEEPS in places I've never heard of. Dates soon, if anyone decides to give us a go. Either way, we're going on tour, even if it's just a dancing tour of shitplaces who still play the same two Smiths songs on repeat for two decades instead of booking us, lordy lordy you really are a pillock. |
Tue 26th June 2012 During the Iran / Iraq war in the 80's, while me & my crucial groovers were breaking all the rules by wearing fluorescent shorts to school, Iranian women were told to dress 'correctly' in bed so that, if their houses were bombed, they would not be indecently exposed to stranger's eyes. In other news, been learning a traditional Swedish song, gonna record it when Eddie arrives from Stockholm in a couple days, it'll be a good'un. |
Mon 25th June 2012 Berlin. Some friends from Rutgers are in town, that's the college in New Jersey I stayed at, so gonna show them some places I love & then I'm moving out. I'll be running the open mic at ACUD for the next few Thursdays until I leave Berlin for the foreseeable future, which is a mild irony as it's the venue I was forcibly removed from when I played my first ever show here, back in Feb 2008. Anyway I'd better go to the seaside & take my goldfish for a swim, he's been cooped up in his bowl for 3 weeks now. |
Fri 22nd June 2012 Yeah, er, mental time in Stockholm, was involved in a rendition of this historical Swedish fertility dance in the wee hours of this morning celebrating midsummer. It doesn't get dark here, the sun falls only partially & rises shortly after. Lyrics to this song include the theme 'The little frogs are funny to look at, they have no ears & no tails.. kwak kwak kwak kwak kwak.." |
Wed 20th June 2012 I'm fucking off to Sweden tomorrow to spend midsummer in the Venice of The North, and then plonking myself back in the middle of Berlin only to move out & get my ass to Mars via Dublin & fuck knows where else. Main thing that YOU need to know right now is that the USA plans have changed. We won't be going directly to New York, oh no, we're gonna be doing a route that goes a little like this: London -> Denver -> Santa Fe -> Tucson -> L.A -> -> New York. Also, wasn't gonna share this until the atwork was done but dunno when I'll get another chance so fuckit, here's the mastered first book of the Ghostcone Trilogy: |
Wed 20th June 2012 Around 2008, just after 8 Love Rivals & my move to Berlin, I started working on a weird little hip-hop EP with another expat. Before long we realised that we needed someone who actually understood the ridiculous form of music we were making so, half jokingly, we asked this guy called Karsten to lay some scratching takes atop our dope beats. I gotta say, I was amazed how good he was, and the truly musical & perfectionist way he played the decks. In between takes we recorded this little muckabout which is one of my favourite YouTube uploads: Anyway, I got a message from Karsten today about a new band he's working with, and I wanna share it with you 'cos I think he's amazing: |
Wed 20th June 2012 The b-side was my attempt to capture some of the chaotic live energy of the band on tape, because people were always saying how our performances were so different to the demos. At Ealing Jazz Festival every year I complain "Oh Christ, she might be here" I didn't go this Summer I thought you were in Spain See, I don't like Jazz or warm beer |
Wed 20th June 2012 Trying to find a balance between working on the past & the.. more recent past, getting there via here & now, somehow. I'm very happy to have that track by TheBed done & dusted, there's finally something to put on that page of my website now. I spent 7 years of my life in that band and all the videotapes are lost in the post, still. It's just another punk song about wanking but I think it's one of my best :p Windows & walls A bin & a dream But there's air to be breathed if you know what I mean Things fall out of cupboards & block up the halls The attic's getting silly now I'm suprised it don't fall On my head So I flick the switch instead Give up the ghost To save me from what I fear the most Still wanting you |
