Fri 11th March 2011 Staying in a big old room somewhere in Williamsburg. A friend of mine is couchsurfing here, and I'm kindof her guest. I was alone earlier when the doorbell went, it's a girl who lives a few floors up who got arrested & put in jail for a day & now can't get back into her apartment as her keys were confiscated. So we're having a drink here now, talking about the heavy handed law enforcement in NY. The hierarchy is now kinda elaborate, there's the owner, the tenants, the couchsurfers, me & now this guest of mine. She got arrested for jumping the turnstile on the Subway & spent a night & day in jail, so I should probably stop doing that now too. 
Had a pretty trippy experience just now when I was upstairs making coffee. I heard this insistent whisper of "help me.. help me" and somehow thought it was in my mind. Then I listened at one of the doors, and heard the voice coming from within. I went inside - turns out that a girl in there had just smoked too much weed & wanted her hot water bottle refilled. Almost thought the line was blurring between me & fiction once again for a moment there. |
Thu 10th March 2011 Played the Catweazel open mic tonight, with & without Albert Goold. Got some new songs we've been working on together, and it's tempting to stick around longer than planned as he has a great show booked for 26th March in a loft studio that will be video'd & recorded to a high standard. Having said that, my flight turns out to be non-changeable so it might not be affordable after all. Also, Daniel is visiting London from Berlin that weekend so ideally I'd want to be around to enjoy that. Sorry I've not had any new media on here for a while, no point getting recordings up when we're still very much in rehearsals. That will come soon. |

Wed 9th March 2011 Argh, everything seems to have fallen on the same evening. Myles playing Goodbye Blue Monday tonight, Oceanographer at Trash Bar & a few personal arrangements. But now, in the daytime, I've nothing to do but mince about & eat blueberry muffins. I've no more accommodation booked for this trip until the 19th, so gonna be out on a limb somewhat. Wonder if I can still get on that hotel rooftop where I slept so many times in the past few years. Played a decent new open mic somewhere last night.. I should really start paying attention to where I end up as I've discovered some amazing places but remain in the dark about where I've been. Loving this pic though:

Tue 8th March 2011 Well! Frist day in New York was fun, but littered with costly mistakes. I've already managed to lose my passport and get myself a court summons. I was taking a stroll, and was like 'ooh that looks like an interesting building' and peeped round the door with my Heineken in my hand, turned out to be full of cops. Police station, oops. Been great to catch up with Albert though, and I've an interesting schedule. Hostel I'm staying in is outrageously bad. I'm actually outraged; that's how much of an outrage it actually is. Trying to see the funny side, though it's surely the single most shittest place to stay in the history of mankind. My door key didn't work in the first place, but when I resolved that issue I realised I was better off in the hallway. And before today I'd never seen a shower that can spray water in every conceivable direction except down. The toilet provided 10 further minutes of comedy. I'm currently in some sports bar in the Chelsea area, struggling to eat a chicken sandwich. The food is so rich here, I can't hack it, always end up living on Naked smoothies.. |
